Comparing compression systems beyond the chamber count

A twelve-chamber system can be quoted with one garment set or another. The chamber count will not tell you what is in the box. Settle that before comparing prices.

Start with the complete system

Put the controller and each garment on separate lines in your comparison sheet. Record whether the quotation includes a pair of boots, one sleeve, a waist garment or another combination. Add hoses, connectors, a power supply and any carry case. A photograph may show several options together; it does not establish what is included in the quoted set.

Use the catalogue reference to keep correspondence attached to the correct item. If you need several garment sizes, list quantities by size instead of requesting a single total. Ask the supplier to identify the controller and garment combination on the technical sheet and the final quotation.

Read the controls as well as the chambers

A chamber count describes the garment's inflatable sections. To understand the equipment, also ask how those sections inflate, hold pressure and release. A manufacturer's technical summary published by the FDA in 2024 illustrates how systems can differ in their inflation sequences and modes. That document concerns a separate manufacturer's device; it is not evidence of clearance for an Autograph catalogue item.

For each candidate, request the stated pressure range, adjustment increments, timer range and mode descriptions. Check whether pressure is set globally or can be adjusted by chamber. If a feature is essential to your specification, ask for the relevant manual page or a demonstration of that exact model. Do not infer clinical suitability from a higher chamber count or maximum pressure.

Make the garment specification measurable

Ask for garment length and circumference ranges, the manufacturer's measurement method and the available size chart. Clarify whether extensions are included, optional or incompatible with the selected garment. A label such as large is insufficient when comparing different product families.

Record garment material, closure type and the manufacturer's cleaning instructions. For an equipment fleet, ask whether individual garments and hoses can be reordered under stable part references. Confirm compatibility in writing before treating a replacement garment as interchangeable. Your clinical or responsible professional team should determine the intended application and user suitability.

Check the operating details

For a mains-powered unit, specify the destination voltage, frequency and plug. For a battery-powered option, request the charging method, stated runtime and the conditions used to measure that runtime. Keep the power adapter in the supplied-item list.

Where portability matters, compare controller weight with the weight of the complete packed kit. Ask for dimensions with the garments and accessories packed. If noise is part of your buying criteria, request a stated value and measurement conditions rather than accepting a description such as quiet. Obtain the current instructions for use, including operating limits and maintenance requirements.

Make the quotations comparable

Send the same requirements to each supplier. Separate mandatory specifications from preferences, and ask suppliers to mark deviations explicitly. Compare the cost of the same garment set, power configuration, documentation and delivery scope. Keep optional accessories outside the base total so that a lower headline price does not conceal a smaller kit.

Before placing an order, reconcile the selected reference, size breakdown and included components against the quotation. Confirm branding, packaging, warranty terms and replacement-parts arrangements. Leave unresolved points visible in the comparison sheet; a blank specification is a question to answer before purchase.
